I was wondering how safe it is to wash my filter socks in a washing machine. I obviously know to not use any soap but what are the chances soap from a previous batch of clothes contaminates my filter socks? Thanks.

PM Jason McKenzie because he washes his in the washing machine but don't know what he uses. I just rinse mine out in the sink because my wife would crap if I put something like that in the washer. Got to keep her happy because it gets expensive when she is mad.

I dont have/use filter socks, but I do use felt pads, which is basicly the same thing just different shape. I first take the pads outside and garden hose clean them. Once a month, I throw them in the washer, no soap, just bleach and use the longest cycle I have. Has been working for me for yrs. Luna

Im sorry, but i say don't do it as using a whole washing machine just to wash a few filter socks is an extreme waste of energy and natural resource's.

I definitely say, don't..Why would you?..A good rinse in some tank water during a water change does just fine, and you don't loose the bacteria that has built up on the sock...

We have a front loading washer and have been throwing the sponges and filter socks in it with out any soap... they come out clean, then just hang on the line to dry... I expect that we will continue this practice...

I was told that putting them in the washing machine by themselves with or without a little bleach was the way to go just make sure you turn it inside out . Then let them air dry really good and you are all set.
