Pardon me if this is the wrong place to post this, but I didn't think this really fit in with the other forums. I am still new and have yet to start my tank, a 55gal. fowlr planned. I have been researching every aspect and piece of equipment, getting advice on from cycling to fish choices. I have read here how people seem to be constantly doing things, changing or adding items etc. My question is, how much time do you actually spend just looking and watching your aquarium? Not worrying about parameters or violence, just watching.

I sit in my chair at night while watching baseball and glance at my tank constantly. If something interesting is going on I get closer. All told I probably view my tank for 2-3 hours a day. Totally relaxes me while sitting in my easy chair.

I spent a lot of money on my tank. I'm always thinking what can I do or what can be done. Even when I'm watching it.

I think the main reasons we all set up tanks is to have a small piece of ocean in our house. We created it(which makes us god), the challenge(can we actually do it), peace within ourselves(just sitting there like a 5 yr old looking at the Toys-R-us window), brings us closer to mother nature and just simply enjoying something that we created out of sweat and love. Much like our kids. Did I just say that?...........I mean rug rats.;D

my two tanks are in my living room and i spend most of my time at home in this room and i always seem to be glancing at the tank while watching tv or surfing 3reef for more ideas or general info.

my favorite time to watch my tank is in the morning when the lights first come on and the tank goes from lifeless to busiling with life.

Working out of the house 90% I spend about 4 to 5 hours a day. One reason I like the hobby if my day is crazy I go out in my family room and check my tank out.

I watch mine at least 2-3 hours a day. I may be *thinking* about micro bubbles and params or rearranging rock, or wishing I had done things differently, or planning when I sit down... but in the end, most nights I fall asleep in front of the tank.

If you really want an idea of how much most of us actually "watch" our aquariums, start a poll...

I sit next to mine couple of hours every AM and every PM in easy chair with laptop watching tanks, replying to 3Reef, and watching TV.

Don't know how many times I have been late being somewhere due to being to wrapped in something happening in tank.

Never get tired of it and could honestly spend better part of every day just doing that, watching.

Totally infatuated with and completely mesmerizing.

But alas, at least for now, many other demands on time now.

    Hey!

Every time I'm writing a paper or reading, I go from time to time to my tank, and watch my "little children" :) Watching them is one of the most relaxing activities during the day!
