So looong story short I purchased a Pistol shrimp about 2 and a half months ago. I then bought a small yellow watchman to try and pair. Some how he ended up in my over flow box and died the next day :( Well i found a pink spotted watchmen that was bigger and thought id give him a try. Something different. The first few days they were under the same rock i thought i had success. Well i was wrong the watchman moved out and stayed on the other end of the tank. Well i thought all hope was lost since i wasn't sure if they would ever pair up... UNTIL TONIGHT :) a month has went by with me checking on them to see if they had any progress even would peak in at night but nothing. I would hardly ever see the pistol except when he got hungry and would run out and snatch a piece of food and dart back under his rock. Well i just got up to grab something to munch on in the kitchen and happened to glance over at the tank and saw some odd movement. I did a double take and saw the watchman hanging out by a cave and the pistol hard at work!! first time i have ever seen him digging or doing anything!!! very exciting moment for me haha. I ran to snatch my camera phone and took a quick video. It kinda looks washed out since my lights were out and the flash on my camera made it look a little funny but i have proof that's all that matters :) I think the watchman started getting pissed at my light so i had to stop lol. I know i said i would keep this short.. i guess i lied.

Thats awesome! Ive always wanted to do this but I worry my coral banded shrimp will kill the pistol. Any input on that?

Personaly I have no idea. I will say that unless the coral banded goes under the rocks I think you will be fine. But maybe someone else has more input.

Awesome! our yellow watchman found our pistol after about 2 weeks! Camped out by his hole for 4 days while Pistol Pete steadily worked away! First we had seen glimpses of him too! Then the RedSpotted SandPerch got jealous of all the attention & bullied the watchman over to the other side in a corner. :( Now it's been a week of constant snapping of a pistol & a pouting watchman with no purpose. :(
Bullies must be stopped!!! (Too bad my fish won't listen!)
It was so pleasant for a while! ;)

Same here. I have a tribal blenny that sleeps in a hole that the pistol lives under and the watchman got booted. And I heard the pistol as well snapping away. Looks like the pistol decided to dig a tunnel to the next rock so we will see if it lasts. Hope so.

That's awesome! I love watching my Red Banded Goby/Red Banded Pistol interact. The fish feeds and guards the shrimp from any attackers or threats with this being said...

I would imagine they would be okay, the pistol shrimp does not venture too far outside his cave without the goby waving his tail to coax him back inside. I also feel that IF the coral banded shrimp went after the pistol, he'd have to deal with that nasty sonic boom of a claw that pistol shrimps carry 8)

Watching my pair is endless hours of amazement.

I have a 29g Biocube w/ a Occy clown, Flametail Blenny, Six-line wrasse, and the shrimp goby/pistol shrimp combo. *along with several inverts*
