I know that new fish hide and you have to be patient. I got a Yellow Watchman Goby on Saturday and haven't seen him since. He hasn't even popped out to eat. I've never had a fish that makes a home and only really sticks to that spot. Any ideas on how to figure out where his "home" is. I'm guessing he picked a spot that was either at the back of the tank against the wall or somewhere within the LR. It would be so much easier if he'd just do what I want. ;)

My spotted goby did the same thing, didnt see him for about 3 days. I think he had his first hole somewhere in the back too. Once he caught on that the food comes from the front he signed a new lease & moved to the front. Now he comes out anytime someone is in front of the tank. Just give him a little time.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

Yea good luck with that. Over 3 years now, and I am still catering to mine. I probably put too much food in the tank just to make sure he gets enough, and what will he do? Turn around and swim down his burrow.:p

Yours will show up, he is just observing you right now.

IME with my YWG this is what happened. I got him and had a black and white occ. clown and a yellow tail damsel in my 20 gallon. needless to say my YT lived up to his rep and bullied the piss out of them. She hid all the time, between 2 rocks just out of reach of the damsel. What other fish is it living with? When i removed my YT within a week shes out all the time perching on rocks, darting in and out of her "home". give it time. also when it knows its feeding time, hell come out. Mine knows as soon as the HOB filters and skimmer go off its chow time.

I knew y'all could make me feel better. I've been wanting one of these stupid little fish forever and my LFS never seems to be able to get them in. I didn't want to pay twice as much for an online order and finally found one in the LFS a few towns over. Now the stupid little thing is hiding.

Current tank mates include a Pajama Cardinal Fish, Spotted Mandarin, Naso Tang, B&W Ocellaris, and a Royal Gamma. The last three are new additions within the last couple of months and all seem to be pretty friendly with each other.

I also had a bout with a Blue Damsel. Hated that fish with a fiery passion. I had about a year where the only fish in the tank were the Cardinal, Mandarin, Yellow Finned Damsel and BD. I was able to catch the YFD, but never could catch the BD. He'd kill any new fish that I tried to add to the tank. Finally died about 6 months ago and I've never been so happy to see a fish die.

Thats a YWG trait. There shy fish at first. They will bolt into the first hole they see and disappear. He'll come out soon. I wouldnt worry.

Well, I saw him for about 15 seconds today. Then he saw me and was gone again. Good to know that he's ok though and now I have an idea of where he's hiding out.

Haha I knew he was hiding. Glad to know he's ok. I've had mine so long now he'll swim around the tank sometimes. That shyness will go away

That would be nice. Do you have a pistol for your YWG? I was planning on picking one up at some point for mine.

Yeah i do. I love them together. I will warn you pistol shrimps will take anything they can get to make their borrows. That means shells and corals on the bottom. Just a warning bc mine tries to steal my hammer coral and my hermit shells. Make sure your rocks are on the bottom bc they will tunnel under. If there not you might have a rock slide.
