So i just did my nightly check on the tank, only to find my Pink Spotted Watchman about 4 feet away on the carpet...

He wasn't moving but when I touched him he flipped a bit. So I three him back in the tank.
He's just kind of bashing into the wall floating around.

He's breathing and his fins are working... I'm not sure how long he was out of the tank for, but will he survive you think?

    Hopefully.

If it happens to another fish, it's good to hold them in front of a powerhead so that water flows over their gills. (Obviously not a very strong powerhead).

Well it's been about 30 minutes and he's seemingly ok...
Hard to tell bc he lays in the sand at night, but he has moved around a bit.

His mouth is kind of opening and closing weirdly though like he's huffing and puffing.

In general, how long can a fish be out of water and be revived?

Good luck with your goby; I hope he makes it.

To answer your question- I don't know much in that direction with SW tropicals, but as a FW fisherman I can say it depends a lot on the species, and I think it has more to do with stress than actual suffocation.

    Again, good luck. :)

Well apparently the Goby is a survivor, he doesn't need no stinkin' water.
Though next time I'll remember to hold them close a Powerhead, thanks.

    Congrats.

I've been told about 5 minutes is the limit.

Glad to hear the Goby did okay. I just bought that exact species of goby myself and I have an open top so I guess I'll be crossing my fingers.

On a side note, I just saw my sixline jump from the tank and I was able to put it back in almost right away. I'll make a separate thread about it.

Well I have glass-tops, but of course they find a way to get through the 1 inch x 48 Inch slit in the back.

I really don't know how long it was out of the tank. I only noticed it because my cat was just standing in the middle of the room staring at something, so I went over to check on stuff. So, perhaps it had happened just then, and she noticed it.
    Thanks cat...

Glad it was ok, he's my favorite fish.

Huh, who would have thought the cat would save the fish? That's great and the cat definitely deserves some extra catnip and fancy feast tonight I think :)
