I just got home and opened my hood. It is a wooden hood and there was water beaded up all over the inside of the top and the sides. Any ideas how to avoid this?

Do you have fans blowing air in and out of your hood? If not, that may be why.

[IMG]No, I figured having the back open was enough to keep the moisture out.

Here is how it is set up

Its most likely the evaporation just collection on the hood, you could put fans on the hood as said above..Or you could try putting a glass hood over the tank which it will collect more water on that then on you hood itself..But it may also not let AS much light in, but as long as you keep the glass clean, it wont change much.

Do you think putting 2x 3" fans in the hood blowing out the top would be enough?

Not 100% sure, but i only have 2 in my 29g biocube and it works..Water still collects on the hood though. I dought a couple of fans will completely stop the water from getting on the wood..NOt really sure what else you could do though..

If it were me personally, I would put two blowing in on one side, and two more blowing out on the other side that way you have a stream of air going across the top. This may be less effective with the back of your hood being open, however..

I was thinking having them blow out the top would keep the humidity from building up in the top.

That may work also, hard to tell without experimenting. The reason I would want it coming in one side and going across and out the other is 1. Like you said, to lower humidity 2. Will blow air across your light fixture to keep it cool and in turn keep the tank cool during summer. 3. To help with Gas exchange.

But your way may work as well..

The room the tank is in will always be colder than the tank itself I would think pulling the air in the back and out the top would help with the heat generated from the light as well. I am not really trying to cool the tank so much as keep excess humidity from building in the hood.
