    My town had it's water main break at the water treatment plant. They have it running through a highly restricted line, and will have it fully up in the next few days.

    Even after it is repaired, we will be under a boil order for 5 days. I was lucky enough to have 40 Gallons of RODI made in a barrel in prep for a water change. This should get me through top off for the couple of days, but damage has already occurred. My top off is directly connected to the water lines through an RODI unit. I have started to lose some of my more sensitive SPS to include my Raptoid, Tri-Color, Montis......ugh.

    My questions are;
    What can I do to help stop my losses?
    Do I need to replace all my RODI filters after the system is flushed?
    How about the membrane?

    Ugg,sorry to hear and wish I could help Jon,but you'd be one of the ones i'd be asking this question to,i'd say to get some carbon going and a large wc with distilled store bought water may help dilute what ever they've treated with.Hope theres not too many losses.And wait for or pm AZ or Russ for the ro/di answers.

    terrible news jonjon

    running a Polyfilter may also help in addition to the carbon
    hopefully binding any toxic metals etc that have got into the system

    A poly-filter is a great idea Steve... Now just to try and find some within a 100 mile radius... I hate small towns sometimes.

    Oh man it's probably some harsh water going through there. If stuff died it might have been from super high chlorine levels? If that's the case then your unit is probably shot as chlorine rips through most resins. Filters are an easy change. Check the TDS coming out of your membrane to see if it's shot. Same with your DI

    Sorry to hear :(

    Do you know anybody close by in another town that might be able to take in some livestock during an emergency? Start boiling large amounts of water and use some of it for water changes. It should be sterile after a good boiling. Just let it cool down first. Good luck, hope it all works out.
    I work in water treatment and distribution for a local municipality and one of any water departments biggest fears is having to tell everyone there is a boil water order. Luckily for us we havent had to do it....yet.

    Wow, that sucks. I hope your tank recovers. I would run carbon, like stated above, and if you have any rodi water from before the main break, I would do a w/c

    If you have a RO/DI you should not have any issues at all. The RO/DI removes contaminants including bacteria and viruses at better than 99.999% so nothing should be different or get through if it is functioning properly. RO is considered an absolute barrier or better than 3 log removal you can literally treat human waste t drinking water standards with one pass though it makes people squeamish to think about it.

    Well.... Lots of carbon, Chemi-Pure, and a total of 80% water changes equals a ton of death. Whatever was in those pipes apparently is bad bad mojo for SPS.

    I went from this.....
