I mixed my own batch of saltwater for the first time using instant ocean saltmix (mixed the salt with a powerhead and heater only, no airstones) and then i did a 50 gallon water change into a 150 gal tank (i used the powerhead and a long hose to shoot the water from the mixing tank straight to the sump wich then shoots it to the tank). The next day (which is today) i looked at my puffer and he has bubbles on his fins, the other two fish look fine, but i notice that on top of some of my live rocks it also has air bubbles stuck to the rocks and sum bubbles also stuck the the side of my tank's side glass. The temp is about 75-80 at all times, i have airstones in my sump, and heaters and skimmer. The sump is outside in garage and the tank is indoors right behind garage wall. Puffer seems to be acting normal, he just has those " bubble looking blisters " on his fin, it looks aweful. What did i do wrong or whats going on?? How can i fix him up back to normal looking?

If it's just air bubbles, I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree. You can aviod this my allowing your water to settle for several hours and making sure it is well mixed before adding it to your tank. Also make sure you do not mix lots of air in when adding to the tank.

I agree with Annick, air bubbles catching on rock and slow moving fins is not a concern. Now if you see it coming from your sand (probably a DSB) I would say the system is working well - again no worries, hopefully you have good gas exchange.

I know water changes are a largely debated subject, but just curious why such a big water change?

i mixed for over 24hrs about 30-35hrs. well incase anyone else has this problem i fixed it...

i came to the conclusion it was either " Gas bubble disease " or " ick / ich ".

To fix the pressurization issue next time im using a powerhead and air stone in my salt mixing barrel. And i also added extra powerhead in the fish tank to fix the pressurization (if it was issue). Since im not sure if it was pressurization or ich i also added copper to treat the ich. Last but not least since water seems to get oxygenated alot during winter due to weather i added a extra heater inside the tank as i notice ich loves cold weather. 2 days after doing all this my puffer looks normal and no more bubbles on his fins or in the tank. (notice for those that have it i would recommend changing 30-40% of water and then adding copper, helps alot, dont add copper if u have coral, plants)
