how do you change your water without uncovering the objects in the tank. in the case that your rock and corals are very close to top of tank, do you take out say 10 gals on a 30 and then add back or do you take from one side as you add to the other hopeing to get out the old water for new. thanks for your help.

if you running a 30G. I would recomend 3 to 4G water changes ever other week. I would not go 10G at once. That 3rd of the tanks water. You would be removing more good that bad.

I do 5 gallons a month, maybe that's why I have that hair algae problem. ;) Keeps my sailfin blenny extremely fat and so does my xanthurum.

What I do when I change water is, I take off the 5gallons, then add the new 5g. If you have corals at the very top, staying out of water for a few minutes wont hurt them, so dont worry. It will take you about 5 minutes to finish the change on a 30g.

I do the water change from my sump. This way no coral is left uncovered. % gal at a time is no big deal when done in your sump.

I have a 75 gal reef. When I do a water change, I use ro water and change just 5 gallons once a week. That is all I do and my corals look great!!! You don't have to do a drastic water change.. Alittle each week is better than a large change say once a month.
