    I have sky high nitrates..like 160.
    I did a 22% water change yesterday on a 135 gallon tank.

My question is can I do another 22% Monday or Tuesday?

What is too frequent, I really want to reduce these nitrates.

I have 7 fish in here now, triggers, tang, maroon clowns. I feed them very little now, every other day.

The person that had the tank before me fed them like 2 times a day....totally overdid it and I have to fix it now.

So I was wondering how often can I do water changes....I make RO water, vacuum the substrate, which is only 1'' of sand, clean all rocks and any filter sponges with each water change.

    Thanks!

as far as i know, you can do one pretty much everyday if you wanted. just with that big of change, try and get the replacement water as close to your dt's temp.

I think I am going to buy some chemi pure elite and put that in my sump along with water changes....do you think that will help too?

I am also ordering a Clean up crew this week so hopefully that helps a little too.

Let me know what else I can do.

yea...I have a skimmer on there...going to upgrade it soon.

along with the water changes, which one of these is better or can I put both in at the same time...?

    Chemi Pure Elite
    or
    Seachem Purigen

They both sound good....not sure which to pick or if I can use both. If I can use both will one cancel the other out or something....or even worse will it cause a problem in my tank?

    Thanks!

You don't necessarily need chemi pure. You can buy any brand carbon and some micron bags and be good to go. Just make sure you rinse it. If you want something to adsorb phosphates, throw some phos-zorb into the bag with the carbon.
