so I bought a new powerhead yesterday from petco.. it was a cheap one. like 15.99. I bought it just so I could use it for water changes.. not knowing how it is supposed to be setup. (No Instructions) It came with an air tube to attach to the powerhead so I attached it and left the water to mix and reach the desired temp overnight... I woke up today and opened the lid and my water is a bit of a murky color..

I took some water out with a tupperware container and it seems clear. I tested my ph and its also fine.. should I proceed with the water change? Or dump it and use new water?

is it the marineland maxi-jet pump? if so its probably the air tube made for a power head function with aerator to blow bubbles. sounds like it made a bunch of bubbles

yeah I think thats what happened it was making a really strong current push towards my heater but Im new to this so I didn't think that would be much of an issue.. its not the marineland its cheaper then that.. it says Petco brand on the box. Should I proceed with water change? Thank you for the fast response!

Yeah, I've used the petco pumps actually. They aren't bad for the price similar to MJ in quality, but cheaper. The tube is for aeration, so, you probably just aerated the heck out of it. One of the goals of leaving it overnight, is to let the water aerate. So, if the tube was out of the water, then you've probably done so :) Otherwise, it dosn't really do anything.

oh yeah, and I took the tubing out just now and end attached to the pump is also discolored like a brownish color. I guess I did aerate the heck out of it :p

What kind of salt are you using? Some salts, such as reef crystals have vitamins added, which sometimes precipitate and leave a brown residue on things. If you allow the water to settle though it should clear up.

I get premixed sw from my lfs since my two tanks are only 10 and 3 gallons but I think they use Instant Ocean.
