Water change?

    During a cycle, if you let your ammonia climb too much you can stall your cycle. If your levels are low enough a water change is not indicated, but if your levels go up too much you can kill that what you are trying to feed.

    That article suggests to do a 25% waterchange everyday on a cycling tank. I don't think that is necessary at all and I haven't heard of very people in the hobby practicing that.... Or actually, I haven't heard of anyone at all practicing that.

    it's unnecessary also, but could be useful if your cycling with some very grungy liverock. I don't know if reefers still commonly get rock shipped directly from the ocean anymore(the did when I started) but there would be so much die off it would make the whole room stink like a sewer. needless to say seeding ammonia was also not needed.


    the tank will cycle really no matter what you do. as long as there was ammonia and the water isn't toxic to bacteria.

    Thanks for all the suggestions, yeah there was ammonia... It was off the scale, but is at 0 now

    I would wait until the nitrates begin to fall, if you are using LR. If not, then start as soon as the nitrites go to 0
