water changes

    Its a 45 gallon im going to start the cycling process saturday and plan to add the first fish some time in mid july. Probably a clown. Could i do 10% every 2 weeks or should i do it every week

    just let it cycle for about 4 weeks then start checking params at 3 or 4 weeks and see where your at..shouldnt need no water change before then..jmo..if your start seeing massive diatom bloom..earlier then cool..you can check all you want...imo get a journal or notebook and start writing it all down ..what ...when...how...how much..etc : )

    In my understanding the diatom bloom is good for the cycling process meaning its almost done correct?

    yup...well on your way when that is occurring. 45 gallon...how about some specs on your filtration..lighting..anything else that could help us help you...and hate to be the "picture police"...but photos are cool...I use photo bucket...but there is photo tools on the top right side of this page. : ) do it man !! lol : )

    Lol ok the tank is still freshwater so pics are a ways off but i have a aquaclear 70 on it right now but will be adding a protein skimmer (when in the cycle should i add that on) 2 powerheads to circulate water, theres a bubble wall but im going to take that out if i can, and if i must go to a wet/dry filter instead of the aquaclear

    Yea i joined this forum i think 3 days ago and the amount of help im getting is great i cant wait to get this going but i am totaly fine with the waiting game and work involved with it. IMO saltwater fish are just way nicer than the freshies

    Oh and when i get to the diatom bloom part can i add the CUC or does that come before or after

    The Cuc has little affect on the bio load. As long as there is food available for your Cuc, it's safe to add. Around the time of a ditto break out would be a good time to add it.

    wait till your nitrites drop to zero to add a cuc or they die, then just feed them till you're tank starts growing food;)
