I agree I usually do mine first thing in the morning after a quick feeding (the tank not me)with the lights on. That way I can clean any of the glass that gets algea growth on it and remove some of it with the old water. After I clean, I get myself some breakfast and enjoy my clean tank while I get my caffiene fix.

I was doing them during the day, but thought about it and it does make more sense doing them at night, when everything is closed....So far so good.

I do mine in the morning when everyone is a sleep, the family, not the tank. That way Im not told be my kids that I spend to much time on the tank. Out of sight, out of mind.;D I guess I do it the Santa Claus way.

I do mine whenever I feel like it.
I stop the main pump. This causes about 4in of water from the main tank to go into the sump. I take that same amount out of the sump and then put the fresh stuff back into the sump and turn on the pump. The inhabitants don't even notice, since I have the water up to temp.
