A koralia 1400 is my main source of current. Regardless of position, the sandbed needs to be adjusted every few days. That being said, Im considering a downgrade to a 750 or 1050. (I have 2 k-nano 240s, one just for surface agitation). Should I buy the 750, 1050 or stick with the 1400? My fish get blown away when they swim thru it ...altho they dont seem to mind.

What size tank? If its the 36 in your bio the 1400 is way too big for sure. I have two 1400's in a 60" long 100G and they move sand at the opposite end.

Something you might consider is two smaller Evos and a controller or timer to switch them back and forth, this should keep your sand evened out. I have the two 1400's on a Reefkeeper Lite switching every 30 seconds and the random currents are very nice.

Thanks AZ ....I actually just put the 1400 on a timer recently ....on for 15 minutes, off for 10. I assume you mean the k-evolution? With 2 evo nanos in there now (one of which is for surface movement only) ... 2 alternating 750s would be too much ...? K++, btw, I appreciate your input.

Koralias have a wide flow, the 1400 may be to big for your system but if you direct the flow toward the top of the water you will still get the flow but your substrate wont get stired up as much.

    Welcome to 3reef Dan!

Thats the problem ....regardless of position (Ive reaquascaped several times to get it right) ....the flow breaks the surface AND slowly blows the sand at the wall/floor transition. My fairy wrasse gets a kick out of it ....he gets swept across the tank all evening ...funny

Nearly all of my fish swim up to the outlets from my return occasionally, and get blown away. The tang (for the algae there) and the blenny (for the pods in the algae) especially. Neither seems to be hurt by it, or mind much.

I prefer to add more powerheads that have less flow. I find it easier to control the flow on specific corals and I don't get any corals or sand blown away either. I have three koralia 1's in my 60 gallon and it produces a steady moderate flow throughout the tank.

Maybe two of the new Evo nano 425's on the timer or controller switching at faster intervals, I switch at 30 seconds and like the current it provides as it seems there is always a little residual current from the previous cycle when they switch so it gets real random not laminar.

The way that I have mine set up, their about 7 inches from the surface, 5 inches from the front glass and it is pointed toward the front glass and a little toward the surface. when i first put the powerheads in they blew the sand all over but after a little tweaking things are good now. I'm going to try to attach a pic to show you what I'm talking about.[IMG][/IMG]

Thats funny raven ...my wrasse works off the pounds, he loves it ....hes fat and can stand to lose a few lbs...lol. What are your tank stats and what is your return gph?

Bulldog... I agree, which is why I have the 2 240s.

Thanks to both of you for your input.
