water flow question

    so im looking to upgrade my powerheads and was wondering if you can have too much water flow.

    Yes, depending on your tank inhabitants and substrate if any. Soft corals like lower flows while hard stony corals like lots of flow. Sugar sized sand may blow around while a coarser "Special Grade" sand or a shallower bed may not.

    There are also powerheads that have a more diffused flow so even with high flows they do not upset things while powerheads like the old Penguin or Maxijet in normal mode has a very directional almost pencil thin concentrated jet stream and and can almost strip paint off a wall.

    It helps to know your tank size, your inhabitants and your future longterm plans or stocking.
