Hi I'm new to the site and I just wanted to say thank you guy for any help.

I have a 75 gallon rimless with a over flow box in the middle on the back glass, the previous owner has moded the returnes to go out of both sides on the box for more even flow.

My question is, What size pump should I use for the this? (current one is very weak)

And, why in the box making a lot of gurgling noise?

Welcome to 3reef, you will need to figure the GPH of the overflow and take it from thiere, just match the return water volume with the overflow, I hope its that easy, hahaha!

Welcome, as stated before you need to know the GPH the over flow can handle and go from there. Usually you want a pump that runs 10 times your sump volume.

The gurguling is the water passing thru the overflow.

    +1 Good info.
What would make it easier on you is getting the pump a little bit stronger then you need, and putting in 2 ball valves. One for the return and one for intake. TRUST ME IT HELPS ALLOT. You have no idea how many times i had to adjust my flow rate in emergency cases.

I am running a Eheim 1262 in my 75. I also have ball valves on both my supply and return lines to help balance the system. If I were to do it again though, I would have used gate valves instead. Much easier to fine tune the flow. What size return/supply line are you going to use? Good luck with your setup.

Once you get your flow figured out, look into a durso stand pipe and other dirivatives to help limit the gurgling noise.

+2... alot of people overdo their return pumps, which just results in more noise and power consumption. I'm assuming you probably have about a 20-30 gallon sump under the 75 tank. Look for a pump that will return about 200-300 gph after taking head loss into account (vertical distance between return pump and where the water feeds into the main tank, probably about 4 feet?).

Also, where is the gurgling noise coming from? The overflow in the display tank, or the drain in the sump? That can help narrow down where you need to address the probably. Durso overflows will reduce noise, and herbie overflows will eliminate it.

Ok cool thank you everyone I can mod my stand pipe to be just like the durso stand pipes.

How ever how do I find out ghp on my over flow box, I want to make sure I have enuf water circulation going thu the slump tank.

Also I'm picking up a new light second hand from Craigslist I spoke with him he said it works sent me pictures and everything. It's a a 2 year old coralife with 4 T5 bulbs, two Metal halide bulbs and 6 led blue moon lights
