I was always curious about where the exit water should go from the skimmer. As most of you know or has followed my build I have an external Cat3 Hurricone protein skimmer which I love to death. The water exit pipe is approximately 15 inches high. I am planning on either having a drain feed the skimmer or using an external pump. So as the title states, "Where do I point the water exiting the protein skimmer."

I like externals to be fed straight from the overflow then go to your "water processing" section of the sump, where all the chemicals and heaters and such are. And allow another overflow to feed the fuge

Yea but it has to go somewhere. I mean if I run it back into the chamber where the water is draining from the tank then wouldnt that make the protein skimmer that much less efficient?

Seeing what exits my skimmer and I do see it in the mico-bubble diffuser sponges, if you have the set up of sump/refugium or just one or the other, thats where I would send it.

So basically send it to the fuge or return section?

Send it before the return section, you want it to have to pass through a bubble trap before the return section.

I wouldn't send to the return section, cus your just sending it right back to your tank, then your defeating the purpose, for sure before the return.

But isn't the water coming out of the exit pipe supposed to be clean water or is that a lie?

No that's right, you just have to worry about bubbles.
