Water Ionizers?

The aquaequalizer was introduced at an IMAC (maybe a MACNA) many years ago and Carl gave me one to play with and review for Frag Exchange. Don't waste your money.

 

The way they make their money is many people are too lazy to request a refund when they doscover it doesn't do diddly squat, too embarassed I guess. If they only have to refund two out of three they made their money.

 

Materials? There are no materials besides PVC and magnets. Last time I checked, neither does anything to improve water quality. Even if the white powder was diatomaceous earth, as far as I can tell, it never even comes into contact with the water so it doesn't really matter what it is unless it really is a "magic powder.".

 

The picture of it taken apart shows some stuff shoved into it. Even if it is just a tube with things stuck into it with a bit of flow through it at worst I would call that a very very weak biological filter. Cellophane all wrinkled up should provide a little bit of surface area. Bacteria will grow on whatever surface it can.

From what I've read about it some people claim it does something to their tank. Others say it doesn't. I would think that if you have enough of a biological filter already then such a small improvement probably wouldn't do much. This may account for why some people may see a small improvement and others don't.

Would I buy something like this? Nope. LOL
But I would rather look a little closer at something before simply dismissing it out of hand.

 

All of the "powder" and "cellophane" is on the outside of the PVC...the water does not contact any of it...it simply runs through the PVC pipe...the magnets, cellophane, tape and label are all on the the "dry side" of the "device"...I respect your trying to give this device a fair shake, but I can do the same thing for you by running some of your tank water through a .25cent piece of PVC pipe...there has been plenty of "testing" done over the years and this thing is no more than a cheap gimmick.

 

Like I said, it all depends on how its put together. I would have to see the filter for myself but since I'm not wasting my money on something like this I don't see that happening.

I would still consider a straight pipe with flow to be a very very weak biological filter but then I consider the human skull deco sitting in my tank as part of the biological filter too. Lol
