    How full do you all keep your sumps? I always was fighting to keep awter in mine, and my water was cloudy sometimes. I increased the water level in the sump and my water cleared up and seems that the drain/return balance is finally stabilized. The more water the merrier I think... any draw backs to this (other than the overflowing issue if the power goes out)?

    That's a huge draw back as far as I'm concerned. Water seeks its own level so the amount of water in my sump is dictated by my overflow and return pump :)

    I have a DIY filter like ecosystems. I find that if I raise the waterlevel or drop it in the sump I can increase and decrease the flow through the overflow and return pump. Use a GPH meter and adjust the level. If you have one part in your sump that is a kinda waterfall with 2 diffrent levels on either side you can play with the height of the barrier between to get maximum flow as well. ;) LOOK MAW I"M CONTRIBUTIN!

    I have a float valve in my sump to compensate for evaporation.

    Yeah, yeah yeah. Show off! If you really cared about us fellow 3reefers you would either buy one for all of us or show me how to make a good one. j/k lol
    ::) ::) ::) ;D ;D

    I add water daily by hand and Yes, I am getting tired of it. On the other hand it makes me go look at the tank every morning before I have to run off to work.

    That's a good point Diver.. I have started my mornings lately by opening the curtains and watching the reef come alive with the sunlight. Well worth a trip downstairs with a bucket of water every other day or so.
