I just looked into my tank and the whole tank is a murky brown-green. Its bad, i turned on the light for a sec to look at my corals and their polyps are our, my acro hasnt rtned or anything, but i dont know what could have caused this. Is the an uber diatom bloom? I had a couple of korrilias i threw in last week, but in 6 years ive never seen water like this. What should I do?

Is it on the glass and rocks, or the water itself itself is this color? Try scraping the front glass... sounds like mine when I get a good algae bloom... maybe you'll want to do a 10% water change too and test for nitrates/ phosphates...

thats weird!? even with my diatom blooms when i started my tank a few months back, they never turned the water color different... just covered everything in the tank including the glass.

lol i was looking at a cheap uv at the petsmart a week or so ago guess im heading out to buy it now. I still dont get it, Ive NEVER done anything to my 46 and that thing is always solid, this tank i have a sump, fuge, GFO reactor, im doing water changes, and bam, problems. So is life i suppose. How mant people here run a UV on a reef tank, i thought it also messed up pods and stuff

the 135 reef has a UV. Most pods can handle UV's unless it's an industrial strength UV.

Another option if money is an option, some LFS's will rent out Vortex Diatom Filters. You wouldn't need to run it for more than 24 hours. (Unfortunately, not all LFSs do this)

I was led to believe by another forum that UV filters were a waste of money. I was told there, that water changes and light schedule reduction should take care of it in a matter of a week or two. I'm going to follow up on this one. I'm having other particle problems in my water, but it's not algae or phyto related. Still, it's good to know how to fix possible future problems.

Good luck getting it fixed ingtar_shinowa. (by the way, I always meant to ask you about your nickname... it sounds japanese, at least the last part of it. What is the meaning of it?)
