Hi everyone. I am starting a 90 gallon marine tank with 30 gallon sump, and I need to know about water circulation. I bought an octopus 200 extreme protein skimmer which comes with a pump. What other pumps do I need and where do I put them for optimum water circulation? Sorry about the basic question, but I am a newbie.

a return pump, and powerheads are what you need.
the optimum flow rate for most tanks is 50x.
so 90x50=4500gph. the return from the sump and the powerheads in the tank should add up to 4500gph.

pro tip: a bunch of smaller powerheads are more functional then a few big ones.

I have a 90g myself and here is what I will have going by Wednesday. Two returns running at about 525GPH each (Rio 2100+ is what I am using....if I had a choice, I would use Mag 7). In my tank, I have two Koralia-3 rated at 850GPH each. I also have a few misc powerheads in there that do about 150GPH each. My total in tank flow will be 34x. My total sump to tank turnover is about 12x, which is about right (you aim for 10x). When I get my two Koralia 4s in the DT, I will be running an additional 2400GPH for a total of 60x turnover.....and I will stop there. So that gives you an idea of how I have mine set up (and the future plans for it WRT flow).

Oh, Packleader is going to dig you. He is a die-hard Octopus fan. He is getting 300 for his new 200g.
