Water Quality....Is it ok?

    Ok, here is my water!

    PH- 8.1
    Ammonia- 0
    Nitrite- 0
    Nitrate- 7.0ppm
    Phosphate- .15
    Magnesium- 1250
    Calcium - 410
    KH- dkh 7 or 125 ppm GH/KH
    Salinity- 1.026

    What can i do to make my water better and do you recommend any products that i should use?

    Do you have a refractometer? or a hydrometer(swing arm plastic POS things)

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    I would bring the mg up to 1350, and try to get the phosphate down to 0.05 ppm.

    Preferred mythod for me wc, but some salt mixes have a lower mg level.

    Okay awsome. i would just get that Phosphate and mag better though, i just thought of that

    Mag up to 1350 or so

    Phosphate down to 0.5 or so.. 0.15 is a bit high..

    Do you feed alot?

    Mag and cal are fine. The ratio is 3:1 Mag to Cal so 410X3=1230 so you are in balance now and I wouldn't do anything to upset that. Sometimes we can get supercilious about our tanks and start to tinker when we shouldn't. Your Alk is right on the lower end of the parameter range, this could be addressed because there is no room for error going down. I prefer a 2 DKH margin so raising it 70 9 DKH would be order here. Reef Builder is the product I use.

    I tend to think of water changes as a preventative measure rather than a band aid, especially when keeping some of the harder stoney corals. For a hobbyist somewhat newer to this hobby and younger tanks it give a greater margin for error and that is ok by me. ;D
