On the rear mounted return box, it there a way to make it quietier? or did I not install it properly ? It makes a " gurgling " sound from the water draining down the return pipe. It has two chambers ....and the second chamber has a cone shaped hard screen ( large debris filter ) then a media cone with a center hole in it ( smaller media plug in it ) around the cone. I can't think of anyway to get the sound to stop? Outside of taping off half of the hole to allow for more water to acculumate in the second chamber....which could end in a overflow problem !

    A little help please.

You can put liverock rubble in it to raise the water level, which I have in one of my overflow boxes and it works great or you can build a standpipe. Also if you make sure your drainpipe coming from the overflow to the sump is as straight down as possible this will also help.

After many sleepless nights (due to noise) that came to me... Also in the tank that I have the rubble in the box, I don't use the prefilter thing, it seemed to make it noisier. Just play around with it.

You are referring to an overflow box right? If you have a 90 degree bends in your drain, it will be a big cause of the flushing gurgling sound. Air gets trapped in the drain and will flush when it gets to be too much, caused by the pressure of the water draining down. I eliminated my sound by removing one of the elbows in my draining system. Also, attaching an airline hose into the drain will help expel trapped air. My CPR overflow has rigid tubing in the overflow drain, and my glass holes overflow system has a soft airline drilled into the drain elbow. I hope this gives you a little help. :)

I forgot to mention the airline tubing thing. Before I put the rocks in mine I would hang a piece of airline tubing out of the drain pipe (where the water went in) and it would help too. I never permanently put it there but it's probably a good idea because it's hard to get it "just right" and it can move if not permanent thus bringing back the noise.
