A recent entry in the eVolo 2010 Skyscaper Competition deserves mention here: The Water-Scraper was submitted by Malaysian Sarly Adre Bin Sarkum and "utilizes a variety of green technologies. It generates its own electricity using wave, wind, and solar power and it produces its own food through farming, aquaculture, and hydroponic techniques. The surface of the submerged skyscraper sustains a small forest, while the lower levels contain spaces for its inhabitants to live and work. The building is kept upright using a system of ballasts aided by a set of squid-like tentacles that generate kinetic energy." Wow! Sarly has some imagination.

You know, all of these ideas are awesome and such, but it would be even more awesome if someone actually built one.

    Dibs on a window room...

I still wonder why we haven't tried underwater living. Like 2/3 or 3/4 or whatever the number is of our Earth is water. Obviously that's alot of unused real estate right there. Our first space station in space was just a dinky little capsule. And now we've got that gigantic ISS out there :) So if we can make a big space station like that work well, I'm sure we can do something underwater. It ain't that hard. People just don't want to spend the money on it or take the risk.

Man just being a SCUBA outer maintenance tech for a place like that would be sweet. All you gotta do is grab some scuba gear and do maintenance on the outside of the building...which just so happens to be underwater.

I'd buy stock in a place like this

Thats cool and all...but it seems like it would be a disaster waiting to happen. If they could successfully build one though..they should make it a hotel/resort. I'd get claustrophobic if I lived there.
