Bad bad idea, unless they built these things so large and to withstand the motion in the ocean... not to mention there is a reason they evacuate the rigs in the gulf when the storms come through. 0 fatalities offshore.

ivan max wave height = 96'

katrina max wave height = 91'

rita max wave height = 84'

Storm would be the biggest problem. But if it's the size of a skyscraper...it's gotta be huge. You probably wouldn't even feel the ocean under your feet. Plus being 90% under the ocean should have some benefit to it. They could seal up the place and hunker down. Or evac. They'll definitely lose a few trees....or all of the trees...

I wonder how long before they build somthing like that. I mean they have already built a underwater hotel. They can make aircraft carriers pretty much unsinkable. The whole sinking thing is what i would worry about. Oh and didnt japan already make a floating airport or somthing.

Yeah they did make the floating airport. I wonder how they would anchor these things?

Large water ballasts and tanks setup on an automated system can counter act the wave motions (Cruise Ships, Tanker Rigs all use water ballasts and lots of pumps to keep everything stable) But, hasn't anyone seen "Deep Blue Sea" never really wanted to be shark bait!
