I recently changed my lighting from t5 and the highest the water temp got with them is 80f.

Now with my halides 2x150watt the water is riseing to as high as 83f but it takes a good 6 hours to get there from 79f when lights are out.

Is 83f ok. what is the danger temp?
if i add fans they would not need to come on for the first few hours, maybe i could put them on a timer.

    Cheers

I have my fan in the same digital coralife timer as my sunpod MH fixture. When my light goes on so does the fan located in the back against the wall and then stops 11 hours later when lights go off. My temp stays from 77-79. maybe your temp in the house is warmer than mine. Mine is 71-72. 83 is getting high and creates less oxygen for the fish

I would do it when the lights come on but I guess 3 hours later works as long as the temp stays stable.

Yeah, you want to divert that heat before it hits the water. I had to get a chiller to keep mine cool cause the wife kept complaining about being cold in the house. Who wants to move to Fla and be cold. LOL

Obviously the best way to keep temps in check is a chiller. Adding in a MH on my tanks meant having to buy 2 chillers. It is an added financial burden all around. 83ºF is borderline too much, depending on what you are keeping in your tank.
You can add a couple of these to blow across the top of your tank to cool it down a bit.

You may also want to look at other sources of heat.. I see you have a seio.. I did a side by side test in a 32 gallon trash can with a koralia in one and a seio 850 in the other. I can't remember the temps the next day but the seio was way higher. Depending on the size of your tank it could be significant. Are your main pumps external?

My main pumps? there are no other pumps in the tank, just return from the cannister.
