I am setting up a 220 gallon system and my water temp is at 81.5 degress. This is without heaters and the lights off. I have a Pro clear 300 wet/dry with a quite one 5000 return pump sitting in the water. Has anyone had any problems with this pump heating up the water like this? I had the same problem with my 55 gallon running a Mag Drive pump and had to purchase a new one to fix.:confused:

try to use fan cooler in the summer time it will reduce your temp 2 degree at lest dont keep the wind direct on the water becuse of evaporation will be more, just on the hood . if you have much mony try chiller . temp shuld not go more than 79 degress for long time & it shuld not vary more than two dgree per day maxmum it shuld be staible.

Do you think going to a different pump would help. I dont understand how it is this hot. Considering that the tank is in my basement , the coolest part of the house , chilly down there.

Do you have glass tops on your tank? If I have mine on it will be 3-4 degrees warmer in the tank.

Temp. is a highly debated topic. Some run it in the mid to uppper 70's. Others run in the low 80's. My tank runs about 80-82. This is with my 400watt mh running. I have not had any problems. Coral and fish thriving and growing. 81 is high with no lights running. I would definately get a fan. I run one on the light and one on the sump. good luck.
