So, I tore down this tank I got, bout' 25 gal or so, it was a copper treatment tank, so i thoroughly cleaned every bit of it and the equipment.

I am setting it back up in my bedroom as some of you know, but I am unsure as how to mix my water. I have no ro/di unit yet, (short on cash) which is the reason why I am asking. I've only got tap water, but I can only buy SOME dechlorinated/deionized water. Because of how money is going, I must go cheap. I could care less about how long it takes to cycle and get to the right levels, I just want to know how to properly mix my water, with such a short budget.

I use Coralife salt too btw.

Well you can go to a grocery store and look at their purified water. If it says that it is purified by Reverse Osmosis it should be good

Easiest/cheapest way I know of is getting it from someone with an R/O. Short of that, cosco has 3 gallon jugs of purified water for like 15-20$ a jug. I know it's pricey but it's a once in a while expense if you can pull it off perfectly the first time. Good luck

I think i found some of that at my local Wally World. I'll go check it out tomorrow, thanks for that input.

Also, it says to use water purified by reverse osmosis as well on the back of the salt bucket.

no way would i use a tank that ever had copper in it for a tank with corals or inverts.if you have to use some tap water for the inicial fill i suppose it might be ok.it gets bad over time.whatever contaminants that are in the tap water will build up over time from contant water top offs before becoming leathal to your tank.tap water can cause algae though.

Well, I bought 18 or so dechlore/deionized RO water in 1 gallon jugs at my local store.

So I will mix this with a COUPLE gallons of regular tap water and mix it up, Money just can't allow much right now. I plan on buying a decent Ro/Di unit in a few weeks. Bills and all just can't allow much, I really just want to get it up and running and cycling. And about the copper thing..

I completely bleached the crap out of this tank, spent at least 3-4 hours making sure NOTHING was in the tank or the equipment.

I would say to NEVER use tap water. you maybe short on cash now , but in the futre when you are adding corals you will have big problems if you don't start off right. You can get Ro water from your local grocery store for arond 33 cents a gallon. And you can get a 7 gallon water container from Wal-mart in the camping section for around 8 dollars. If that is too expensive than maybe you sholud reconsider starting your tank until you have more money. just mo
