Alright well iv been using tap water as a top off. and my tank in the 2 month range and i still got those diatoms(sp?). Aright anyways im 15 and its harder for me to get money then some of you so my next buy will maybe be a ro/di unit. Well i had an idea and our refrigerator has it where you can get water/ice. Do you think that water coming from the frige will be better then tap water? dumb question lol/.

They usually have filters on them but probably not filtering out much. Home Depot usually sells ro/di or di water in the big water bottles. I think it's like 12 bucks for the bottle and water and then 6 bucks to swap the bottle out for a full one from then on. Tap water is just gonna cause you alot of head aches down the road. Maybe you can go this route?

Your LFS will sell RO water for 35 cents a gallon, around 1.25 for premixed. Filtered tap water is better than tap. And you should ALWAYS use your dechlorinator no matter where you get the water from. Maybe get a record of from your water co to tell you whats in it.

Also, I think Fred Meyers sells RO water in a Glacier machine for 35 cents as well.

I get mine from the LFS. But you can buy DO water from grocery stores but they will be more like 85 cents per gallon.

Have you tested your tap water for Phophates, Silicates and TDS's ? Maybe its not all tht bad ?!?

at 15 you should be saving your $$ for dates not an RO/DI unit ! LOL

You might want to check with your LFS to see how much they charge for water.

man if I had a nice reef tank when I was 15 that would be where all my dates went anyways....forget movies, tanks are way more fun.

Of course, I don't know if i felt that way when I was 15... but I lived in Hawaii and anyone could see fish any time just by jumping in the water.

If I were doing this and 15 again I would research the "benefits" of a home RO/DI unit and convince the rents they need one for their coffee maker, then use it :p
