i was givin salt in a one of those 5 gal buckets :) theres only about 2-3 inches of salt in the bottom of it and its hard as a rock. my question is can i make a slury and store it like this so i dont hzve to chip it away ect.? or will this deplete its nutrients? im thinking its ok but id like to hear it from you guys :) thanks in advance :)

Its hard because moisture got to it already. If you break it up back to a fine powder and put in a big enough zip lock bag it should be ok.

I don't think it's a good idea to store it as a slurry, you should always add salt to a volume of water sufficient to keep the salinity around 1.025 or less. If the solution becomes too saline you risk having calcium carbonate precipitate out because the alkalinity/calcium levels are going to be extremely high in such a small volume of water.

You might be able to use water to dissolve the salt out but then immediately dump it into a larger volume of water so it spends as little time in a hypersaline state as possible.

That's my understanding anyway, if anyone else has a better understanding feel free. :)

The reason it was all hard and crusty is because moister got to it. Salt will absorb the humidity in the air, you need to keep it sealed in an airtight container.
