I would suggest going another route if you really want waves. I am using just one Vortech MP 40 on my 120 gallon reef tank and in the short pulse mode I have a 1-2 inch swell (wave) across my tank  another good option would be a tunze nano wavebox that is the way to go if you really want wave action. The Most Important thing is what is up with your avatar Very Nice!!!

The Vortech has the smallest profile in the tank by far and puts out a max flow of 3000 GPH I don't think anything else comes close to that performance with such a small 3" x 3" round profile

lol.. the avatar is personal. My chica Jay and her sister. I get alot of people commenting on her.
1-2" swell is crazy! I dont want it splashing every where. I want it all under water.
I will have to look into that Vortech MP 40 you speak of. I thought that tunze wave box was expensive?

Tunze wavebox is about the same price as the Wave 2K, but IMHO is a much better unit. The MP40W goes for about the same price as well;)
Just so you know, you cant plug in Koralia's to a wavemaker. The shaft inside of them will bust very shortly due to the constant on/off cycles. Koralia does make a 12V wavemaking unit, but you will be right back at $500+

Honestly, you are going to be right around the $500 dollar mark for any decent wavemaking system.

I don't see the relative significance to the "wave" or better described as surge makers. I would think they are more for tanks of 150 gal. and larger to supplement the stronger circulation pumps needed for larger tanks. Properly placed power heads can accomplish a nice surging effect in tanks under 150 gal. My 55 gal. does mimic the ocean current and surging and just about everyone who watches the tank comments on it, which is refreshing, as I have taken it for granted. I say, save your money.

In my 110 I have a Natural Wave wavemaker which comes with three MJ 1200 pumps. The wavemaker has six outlets in total and three of which come on at timed intervals which you can control. If you want to get into wave making for around $100 total this is the answer. Of course there are more expensive but you have to look at bang for the buck. There are also some sweet mod kits available for the MJ 1200 so they can push some serious water. I don't have mine modded but I am happy with the performance.

That is a good concept. I used 5 gallon bucket purged surges on every 4' x 2' Propagation tub I had... I cannot even remember why I even started the surging. I have done it for so long that I've just incorporated it into the "must have" category. I have alot of SPS in my "piano tank" and I have always timed the SCWDs to overlay. I have few frags from that tank in "my now 55g/ old 150" and I wanted something more simple... plug and play with out all the piping. Does anyone have any other concept about the significance of wave making? I always assumed it was standard.

That is an AWESOME deal! You guys are giving me alot of good stuff to look into and I really appreciate it. I have never heard of half of this stuff until now. THANK GOD FOR THIS FORUM! For $100, I may keep my assumptions I listed above just to get that crazy water circulation.. lol!
Thank you to everyone for helping me out!

    I have:
varied acro (creeper. tri-color, rainbow, ect.),
Monti. Caps (orange, yellow and blue rimmed),
nice digitata and "hulk" encrusting monti.,
Rainbow frog spawn, Green frog spawn, metalic frog spawn,
    Normal Hammer (green tipped),
Short tent. torch and Aust. long tent. torch.
    Bubblegum chalice (watermelon)
so many different types of zoos.
    Hairy mushrooms, fuzzy mushrooms,
and my superman mushroom just split into 4.

I have 1 powder blue, 2 occelaris (mated), 2 Black Austalians (mated), Neon/ Arabian Goby and 9 Green Chromis'.
The Maroon yellow striped clowns kept beating everyone up so I had to get rid of them.
The neon goby is going bye bye soon as I swap tanks!
Most of my stuff likes high flow but I don't know if any of the stuff listed likes alternating? Like I said, I took it for granted.

I haven't seen the 1" SCWD. I was annoyed with mine because I had to put a T-valve on it to ween it down because it was rattling like crazy and they said I was putting too much flow through it... I thought that was the idea was to circulate water through the filtering process as much as possible... now I weened it down? So I was thinking supliment with that Natural wave wavemaker w/ 3 MJ 1200 pumps and use my pumps to dump as much water back in the tank.
If I don't go with the Natural Wave, I'll stick to 2 Koralia #2's or #3's like someone said before and I'll see how it goes. I just like the look of Koralia heads compared to my old square ones.
