Well I picked up a Wavepoint 24X4 T5 HO lamp today. This replaced a wet Nova Extreme. So far I am pretty impressed with the unit. Appears well built and solid. It comes with 2 12k and 2 actinic bulbs that look pretty nice but I replaced them with new ATI bulbs (2 blue plus 1 purple plus and a blue special) just in case. This unit only comes with one wire so it's not possible to set up a separate actinic/daylight schedule. Also comes with no fans so it is nice and quite. I have only had it set up for a few hours and can tell she gets a little warm. Not sure how that will affect things in the long run. I really like the reflectors as they are individual reflectors similar to what TEK uses(according to my LFS, see pics). I have attached several pics. Let me know if you have any questions or need more pics.

    congrats fbird

it does look like a great unit and with those ATI lamps combined with individual reflectors it should be great over your set up

save those lamps, as if you get a problem with one of the ATI lamps ( sometimes rogues get through) at least you have a spare lamp you can put in until you can replace the faulty one

you can now relax over Christmas, as your corals needs in terms of lighting seem to have been nicely taken care of

Congrats on the new light. You can help the temp by blowing a fan across the label area of the bulbs from the back to the front of the unit. It will help the bulbs last longer.

Thanks. Definately saving the bulbs. Actually considering fixing the old Nova unit and using it and the bulbs on my other tank that has PC's.

Thanks, I'll try that. Hoping it wont be much of an issue, will wait and see. I actually removed the legs moving the light closer to the tank. The light showing with the legs was blinding from my couch.

Yeah you might want to see if you can build a decorative wall to prevent the stray light issue.

I have the exact same one, so does FLfishgrl...I love it! Only problem is there isn't a separate switch for the acitinics which I wish there was. But other than that it's cool...has a built in heat sink which Definatley helps keep the heat down

Here you go. These put out alot more light than the single reflector Nova extreme unit I had with the same bulbs. I put 2 blue plus and blue special and a purple plus. They make a great combo. The colors are pretty close to what they look like in person.
