they do make hydros now that can be used with a wavemaker. the older hydors werent made for the start/stop action from a wavemaker.

Koralias are not recommended to be run on a wavemaker. They aren't designed to be turned on and off constantly, as this can wear out the impeller shaft.

Yeah, but they are 12v versions, not 110v. Don't you need to use Hydor's wavemaker with them?

the hydor wavemaker from what i gather does the voltage conversion, the controllable koralias can only be ran with the wavemaker I dont think they function at all without it but i havent actually seen them in action so don't take that as the gospel

honestly i havent looked that far into it. so you may be right that they can only run with the hydor wavemaker. If what you say is true id assume that means that they are diimable but still cant endure the start/stop motion?

from what i was told, the originals cant handle running on anything lower than full power, and hydor is redesigning the originals that if they run on lower than their full power they'll disable themselves until their unplugged and plugged back in, the 12v ones are designed to work with their wavemaker only, basically their trying to lock people into their products, hydor pumps only work with their wavemakers, ect.

The more I keep reading into this the more I'm leaning towards just buying a small controller unit, really I can get one for under 300 bucks that can run the timer for my lights, perform as a wavemaker and keep an eye on my PH and temp and even turn on my heater if what I'm reading is correct this might be the best way to go, i think if i was going to do 300+ for a wavemaker rig I'd just bite the bullet and go with a ecotech marine vortech and be done. I could probably run just 1 on my 90g and be fine

Iraf, I agree with you here and thats what I'm planning on also. A controller takes the place of the wavemaker, timer, thermometer, etc..., run your heater, fans, a chiller. By the time you add all those up and the hassle havin' to mess with each a controller isn't that expensive. I think the ACIII is the way to go for about 300, but the Aqua controller Junior is only around 150 or so. I was looking at a Ranco temp controller unit to turn on just heat and fans, and it alone was 130!
