Not sure how to put this. I see a lot of tanks with an unlevel or wavy sand bed (high on one side and low in another) My sand is realtive flat across the bottom. Is their a benefit to a wavy sandbed or is it for looks?

I like the level look, but my powerheads blow it unlevel/wavy..

It is just what happens when you have small grain sand and lots of flow.

If your referring to just the different depths of sand, then yes and no. Some people have a DSB that helps with getting rid of nitrates. However, I believe you are just referring to different currents and the fact that power heads blow sand around in different parts of the tank. My sand is about 2" deeper on the right side of my tank b/c of the under toe I have from my MP40.

Thanks for the replies. Guitarman, I have followed your show your tank thread and love it! I did notice your sand on the right side. Didn't know if you had planned that or not. But, the MP40 would explain a lot!

Thanks. I didn't plan it, over about a week the sand just piled up, though I've got it under control now.
