I highly doubt he would want to siphon 150 gallons of water out of his tank. Not sure how big the O.P.'s Emporer is but if its even close to adult size you would need a large trap. Like a cast net.lmao

thanks Steve. I think Ill give it a shot. I really am running out of options. As for removing the water isnt an option because I dont have a place for 200gallons of water and Im affraid he would just hide in the rest of the rock work. and I dont know how long I would need to leave the water out trying to catch him, and what the coral would do say for a 1/2hr. with no water. But good suggestion everyone.

just to let you know that I had to move my reef tank forward about 4 inches last year to accomodate a new skimmer
my tank is / was pretty well packed with SPS and LPS corals

it is only 75 gallons in total, so 1/3rd of the problem you have
I used a largish water pump to empty the water into 4 containers (2 toy boxes and 2 x 20 gallon buckets)
I moved the tank, and pumped the water back in
the excercise took less than 20 minutes
all the corals survived the ordeal without issue

ensuring there is no draft , air movement will also help prevent any SPS corals sliming after you have done this (Tip given to me by Inwall75 in advance of me doing this)
Saran wrap placed on top of the tank when it has emptied will keep it humid and also prevent drafts air movement

if you did decide to try this method to capture your fish, making a depression in the sand bed at one end, so that this area becomes the deepest part of the tank as you empty the water, and thus fish naturally migrate to that area as water level lowers , means you have a relatively easy location prepared from which to remove the fish

it took 20 minutes for me to empty, move, locate skimmer and set up, and then refill my 75
so I reckon your 200 with a larger pump than I used could be emptied and refilled in less than 30 minutes , which for majority of corals would not be an issue ( not a great idea for sponges though)

    Steve

lol heres a vid on catching a fish in your tank:

just use a trap with a trap door and dont feed your fish for a day or two and sometimes a mirror works.
