    OK,
So this is a weed, I know that now. What was once a tiny bud on a small rock, has now grown, and grown, and grown some more. I have watched it touch another , split itself off and re grow some more.

The is when it was still on the LR rubble and probably should have done something then, but I didnt know it was soo invasive. I was alos so excited I had something growing I didnt want to touch it.

    Oo Nooo, it keeps growing.

I fear I need to get a handle on this quickly, so this weekend I will embark on a mowing of the lawn so to speak.

I can take out ground 0 which will get about 1/4 of it. I cannot remove the rock it is now on. Do you scrape the base with a razor or something ? A little each week or what ?

My question is, what is the best way ?

    Cheers

when i had to do xenia removal i just grabbed it at it's slimy base as best i could and peeled it off..the entire stalk just came off and it never grew back..so i would just try that and if you end up leaving some behind then you can get a razor or something and scrape it off

Try and get it off with one tug, anything you leave behind will grow into another stalk. That also goes for what you scrape off that might happen to float away.

If pulling them off doesn't work, cut the stalks with a sharp razor blade or very sharp scissors (have a net ready to catch the polyps before they float away). Then smear what's left of the base with some kalk paste. Run fresh carbon.

It's a thick paste that you can make by mixing kalkwasser (a.k.a. pickling lime) and r.o. water. It will burn the coral which will prevent it from regrowing from the base.

Be careful of what floats away... that stuff will spawn in all kinds of horrible places.

Kalkpaste, Kalkwasser, pickling lime from the grocery store... whatever. It's a powder. Mix with water just enough to make it think and pasty. Smear some paste on the base on the rock. This stuff is a force field.

All caught up now. I will look at my local for this pickling lime, never saw it, but never looked for it either.

    Thanks all

It took forever for me to find it at Kroger. With people helping me look even.

It's used for pickling cucumbers into pickles, etc. I ended up finding it where they keep empty pickling jars, which ended up being way, way in a back corner where I don't believe anyone ever shops ;)
