I have a 10gallon reservoir and a 12 gallon sump under my 90 gallon aquarium. It's a standard pine stand I bought from Petco over 3 years ago and I'm finally deciding to increase the size of the sump. So it just dawned on me, what's the weight limit for under the stand? I would figure it would be high(maybe 300-400lbs?), but I'm looking to replace my 12 gal sump with a 30 gallon, so its a bit of a jump. Anyone have experience with this? I'd prefer not having to store the sump on the floor but I'm concerned it will be too much weight for the bottom of the stand. Anything I should know before going through with this? I'm still looking for weight limits for the cabinet but no luck so far.

It really depends on how it was built! However it should hold up just fine. The bottom is most likely sitting on the floor or made out of plywood. if it was built out of MDF then I would worry. I think you will be fine. A picture for us might be better to help answer your question.

It's definitely solid wood (pretty sure pine) but good point, a picture would help :).

Here's a link to the same one I bought:

R&J Enterprises Black Oak Empire Cabinet 75/90/110 at PETCO

I think what I'm gunna do when I'm home and verify there's no gap underneath the molding(I never saw any gap but I'm thinking the back might be?). If its solid, then I bet its all flat on the floor in which case I should be safe.

    Thanks!

Since they are selling it as a reef stand, I'm pretty confident they should have support for a fairly large sump. For a 110g reef tank, a 30g sump is on the smaller side and they should have compensated for that in the construction.

You could always call/ email them and ask... http://www.rjaquatics.com/contactUs.html
