I bought this colony a few months ago and about 3 weeks or so ago i noticed something else growing on it. Didn't seem to be bothering the polyps so i didnt really think too much of it but not it seems to be getting bigger and more prominent. This is a very bad pic but they look like little greenish bubble. First i thought bubble algae but then i touched them and they are hard. Almost rubbery. It still isn't irritating the polyps but i don't want it taking over.

    Please google bubble algae.

Compare images, if ID'd as bubble algae remove piece and manually remove bubbles, rinse piece and return to tank.

is bubble algae usually rubbery, kinda hard? I have never encountered bubble algae in my tank in the 8 years i have been in it so its defiantly something new to me.

They are indeed hard little spherical round balls.

The theory is that if you brake one while removing it while still in the tank, the algae release spore that go on to populate the tank.

This theory has never proved true to me, but since I would be careful about spreading the algae it seems prudent to remove the piece if possible.

If it does become an issue on other pieces of your rock that can't be removed, I would consider placing a green emerald crab in the tank.

It was indeed bubble algae. Was able to get the entire rock out of there and scrape off the bubbles. Was able to get all that i could see off of there. Always interesting to see new things pop up in your tank even though not always good, you defiantly never stop learning in this hobby.
