this is probably a common thread name because I know clowns can have unusual behavior frequently. Anyway, my black and while ocellaris clowns seem to be periodically rubbing in my bubble coral which is right next to my bubble tip anemone. Does this mean they may eventually find the anemone?? I've been waiting for them to host for over a month now - understanding that's it not a given that they will but I'm hopin' !

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
It may, problem with Ocellaris and BTA, is that BTA are not a natural host in the wild for Ocellaris.

My B/W never resided in my BTA's even after years. My female B/W does rub her belly on my Duncan but she has never really resided in a coral nor anemone.

That is not to say your won't.

I began this whole quest of a reef with the goal of keeping an anemone/clown combination. I settled on the BTA because it's the hardiest to keep (or so I've read) and got the ocellaris because I really liked them. I've read where carpets are the natural hosts but carpets can be a bit dicey to keep and also can be aggressive. I know where I've read several people have gotten their BTA's to host ocellaris....I'll just keep hoping :)

Yeah, it could just mean it's going to end up in the bubble coral. Neither are "natural". So, not necessarily any reason it would choose the bta over the bubble coral. I guess keep your fingers crossed :)

You could always purchase a maroon clown like me. Lol. Its not uncommon at all for your clown to be hosted by the bubble coral. I wouldn't worry to much at the moment but keep an eye on your bubble coral. There extremely delicate. I got my maroons a bubble tip anemone because they wouldn't leave my duncan alone :p

that is an interesting option - to get a maroon.....I got rid of a maroon though when I first transitioned to a reef because of their aggressive nature.

On another note, saw a huge, beautiful purple carpet at the LFS with a couple of snowflakes hosting in it. Was pretty awesome looking but obviously way too big for my tank and a $400 price tag - I always love it when something so pretty is out of my price range, then I don't have any quandries (sp) about should I, or shouldn't I? :)

Carpets make me nervous. It won't take long before you realize your missing fish. Lol. My gold band has doubled in size and his stripes are really yellow and he actually shares 2 BTA. Its all in the personality I guess. It your clown gets hosted make sure you take a pic.

ocellaris' and perculas are probably some of the pickiest when it comes to being hosted. but given enough time they will most likely come around to hosting your bta if they dont begin hosting your bubble coral first.
