So, I've been in the hobby going on 6 months now and I have either been really lucky or have been doing everything right because I haven't had a single problem with my aquarium! Parameters are perfect, everything in the tank gets along I've had little to no algae problems, and whatever algae I do have gets eaten right away by my 5 reef safe hermits. I do about 2 water changes a month only because I don't have a Sump or Refug. I just have no where to put one. I recently just moved into a new apartment about 2 weeks ago, so I have to move my tank and fish and everything for a 20min ride to teh new place and put everything all baxck together, no casualties. About a week ago I have noticed a haze on the surface of my water. When I place my finger in the water it seperates but eventually goes back. I thought maybe that my nitrates were too high so I checked them but they are only at 10ppm (a little higher than I would like them, but still safe). My setup is this:
    33 gallon tank
Hegan Glo T5 HO 2x39watt Lighting
    Prizm Protein skimmer
Fluval 205 Canister filter (no media except some carbon)
    Power head
    Heater
    35lbs of live rock
    2 ocsellaris clowns
    1 firefish
1 cleaner wrasse (been with me for almost 3 months now :D)
    1 lefthanded hermit
    1 blue legged hermit
    3 blue knuckle hermits
small frag of eagle eye zoas
    small frag of green mushrooms
    small frag of star polyps
    small frag of button polyps
Everything is healthy, happy and growing wonderfully... I don't overfeed my system. A small amount in the morning and then again before bed. What is this film/haze of the surface of my tank?

That surface scum is normal. I would assume that you have little to now surface water movement. If you were to point a powerhead up toward the surface it should fix the problem.

Do you have a power head that agitates the waters surface? Its pretty normal to have film on the surface. Might try pointing a power head towards the surface a little.

Congrats on moving your tank to, thats a tough thing to do.

Actually yea, The only thing I have moving the surface of the water is the canister filter outtake tube, but I submurged it enough so my water wouldn't splash. I'll manouvor the powerhead differently then. Will this become a problem if I don't have a lot of surface movment?

That would be a bio-film that develops from poor surface circulation. You need to correct that as it disrupts the gas exchange. A powerhead pointed toward the surface will keep the film in suspension so your skimmer can remove it.

I had the same issue with my biocube. I just tilted the power head up to move more surface water and the issue is resolved.
