I've had a purple pseudochromis for about a year now. He's (or she) been his normal aggressive self, but today started doing something really odd. Out of the blue, he started picking up clumps of sand in his mouth and is making a sand pile in a corner of the tank. What the heck is he doing??? He's got a pretty large pile going, and he's been doing this for a couple of hours.

Yes, mine does that too!! That's what he does allll day long. He's done this for months and months. Since both of ours do it, it must be normal! ;) Oh, and mine is a redhead elongate pseudo - so must be a common thing in different types.

My Blue Spot Jawfish does this as well...and not to dig his burrow(s)...just because. He also will build a steep slope into his burrow so that any hermits once they reach the peak of the summit, fall into his home, where he then picks them up in his mouth, swims to the other side of the hill and spits them out...I think he gives them the finger and lets out an old man groan too...but can't be sure. His name Oscar, because he is such a grouch.

MY green spotted puffer has been biting the sand lately...he's weird.

I've tried! Every time I pull out the camera, he stops spitting sand! Will keep trying....
