Weird red algae in sump?

    I would just thin it out in the sump for nutrient export as needed.

    Would ripping some off and throwing it out release spores into the water like normal bubble algae would? I dont want it to get into the display.

    Ripping it out might. I would trim it.

    If you wanted to do a 100% extraction, just kill your return pump, scrape out all the red algae, scrub the glass down to remove any remaining tissue, and then just drain the sump completely and replace all the water with new saltwater.

    Probably the safest way of doing it without going through steps of sterilizing the sump, which is probably not necessary.
