Sometimes it's crazy how our li'l reefs so thoroughly take on lives of their own...

I had a bit of a green hair algae problem going on...so I picked up a half dozen turbo snails and the went to town mowing down on the nasty stuff...

Yet the hungry buggers keep knocking my hydorflo spinning-thingy-of-alternating flow off of the powerhead...this really pissed off my bubble-tip anenome because it would end up getting the full blast of the PH until I replaced the hydorflo...it started migrating around the chunk of live rock it lives on...I kept rotating the rock so it wouldn't wander to far, ie into a powerhead as I've heard so many horror stories about...

So last weekend I decided to move around the powerheads to that when the dang vegan snails from heck next knock of the whirly-go-round the BTA wouldn't have a hissy fit...cue the inevitable sand storm because I didn't move rubble around to counteract THAT little crisis...

And just when all was relatively safe, reef equilibrium restored, I come home from the pub tonight to find something totally new...now I know I was there for a few rounds more than I had originally planned, but there were now TWO anenomes in my tank!

This had happened to me once, Back In The Day, when I had set up a tank for a girlfriend in college...waaaaay before I ever found 3reef...heck, before 3reef was ever around...no LR, no skimmer, no PC lights even...anyway, her (MY, since I had paid for it and kept the whole damn thing alive until the break-up) BTA had randomly split at one point....yay, me...

So here I am...less than reliable flow, 2 BTA's and a maroon clown w/ twice as much real estate to worry over...I blame this entire ordeal on my buddy, Cap'n Jake, who not only suckered me into helping with reef tanks and electricution back in college, but also still has the makings of my sump some place outside Boston...all that stands between me and my SCWD and tank perfection...

    yeah, right......

just thought I'd share...hope you're all having a cold one or two tonight and enjoying your reefs...

    be well,
    -eric-

I know what you mean by take over our lives. My girlfriend was like hey lets get a saltwater tank and now she complains that I spend more time and money on "my dam fish"........but they don't wine.

    Hehe...

My girl loves to watch the fish and even the corals now...but when I want to turn the lights on in the middle of the night to look at copepods or take take the lights off to fix the damn hydorflo, she gets a bit cranky...and gods forbid anything ever dies!

Heh. Nice story Eric. Funny what happens after a couple drinks sometimes. :) Congrats on the new BTA!

Actually 3reef has been around since 1996 if you can believe it! (Formally called 'Three Steps To A Reef Aquarium.'

Well, who woulda thunk it? It'd be interesting to see what the site looked like then...the differences in information and web design. Were you running the ship back then too?

Yeah I was. It's been mine all along. I'll just spent a few minutes looking for some of the original site. I couldn't find it yet, I did find the last version. I'll dig it up, I need it for something soon anyway.
