I have been using city water since I started my tank.....and have not been using anything to take out the chlorine. I just really realized this and was woundering if I should get some additive to counter act the chlorine or switch over to well water? Which I can get for free

ah man. I would definantly get something like Prime to get rid of the chlorine's.

well water would probably be a no-no, unless ro/di filtered. It may be the same water as city water ro/di'd then, wouldn't it?

You have a lot of livestock to have never dechlorinated any. If your water sets long enough the chlorine will bubble itself out of the water. Maybe thats what you've been doing with water changes? letting the water mix for several hours?

If you leave the water sitting for a day or two, the chlorine evaporates. But if your city is using chloramines (different chlorine compound), I"m not sure if it would evaporate as easily. Common aquarium additives will neutralize either one.
In my opinion, it would be better to filter your water, not just to remove chlorine but to get rid of phosphates and nitrates.

I would get somePrime either at ur LFS or order online, its usually way cheaper online. And you can add it without much fear of OD the tank. Just go by the instructions for dosage and it might make everything a little bit happier!!!

Your saving grace is that you have a pretty large system. 1 or 2 gallons with chlorine in it probably isn't going to hurt anything in a 75 gallon tank. Your signature doesn't mention using charcoal in your filters, but that will remove the chlorine, too.

I should probly get some prime. I just put my sump in a couple weeks ago. So I took out my canister with my charcoal. When I do water changes I usualy do 10-15gal. I am going to make a fluidized reactor one of these days for charcoal.

Have you considered just getting a RODI unit? They are better than using additives and pay for themselves over time.

Urban S the ro/di is one of the best investments an reefer can make - on you start using it I not sure it will matter to much where you get your water from.
