If you have wells in your area your bound to have a "certified" testing service available locally, check the yellow pages (old school?) ok, Google it :) I really love my well water, 198 feet down and comes up 50 to 51 degrees cold :) I was just a little concerned about using "softened" water in my tank, I know it will kill plants and lawns over time. :-/

This is interesting. Wonder what the explanation for that would be

I've never heard that before. I used soft well water on my nano and I've been feeding plants for a very long time with no ill effects.

Has something to do with the excess salt in the water. My lawn started turning brown while very wet and my sego palms had their leaves start shriviling. Soon after correcting the plumbing problem the plants came back just fine. :)

Let me ad that many of the "expert salesmen" will tell you it's not a problem but if your plants are sensative to salt or to what ever new product their softening or rejuvinating the resin with you will have problems

I use a lab called Legend Technical Services which has locations around the country and has a suggested testing plan for domestic wells on their website. I operate a couple small domestic water systems and they and their predecessor have done my analysis for almost 30 years now.
