I have well water and with an rodi and extream iron I have no problems. I replace the filters every 2 months due to my iron. Not a big deal just lear the water and you will know what to act on.

A good water softener with something like Morton Rust Remover salt pellets will help with high iron.

Domestic well water is really no different than any other water other than you the well owner are the one who needs to ensure water quality rather than a municipal utility. As a well owner you should send water samples to a certified testing lab at a minimum of every 5 years and more often if something is of concern or shows up in one of the samples. Around here the labs will do a "well scan" of the basic things like calcium, alkalinity, pH, coliform bacteria, ammonia, nitrates, iron, lead and copper for around $125-$150 and its worth doing. In AZ most title companies will not clear on a property with a domestic well until the water quality has been analyzed and the report reviewed. This gives you a baseline water quality so you know what you are drinking and any health effects it may have. I wouldn't use a domestic well unless I knew the water quality for my families health and safety.

We had ours tested a few times also while *****ing a water softner. Our water was good other then high iron got three quotes on having a filter installed all three said safe water just high iron. All three of them wanted to install a different size filter claiming that we needed different ones haha. I do know my water is safe now but will be desigining a design and installing one myself as none of them wanted to have my irragation system to not be filtered? why spend more on salt for a 3 acre lawn? not to hard to understand lol.

Did any of the filter companies actually use a certified environmental testing lab or did they use test kits in the field? I wouldn't trust a softener salesman as far as I could throw one, I am a certified treatment plant operator by profession and I get a kick out of those Bozos when they knock on my door and give me their bogus sales pitch and test the water with something akin to a swimming pool test kit. I have certified reports on my water quality and none even comes close.
Use a state certified lab and get the real story.
