Went into a different LFS today. Shouldn't have.

SO I normally got to Something Fishy www.toofishy.com. It's about 20 minutes max from my house and they are EXCELLANT. So, I had heard about this other place thats a little further away and I never bothered going there since my regular place is always so good. So, I was in the area of the other place today. Its called American Aquarium (American Aquarium ********** Lehigh Valley Leader *********Tropical Fish, Aquariums, Corals, Goldfish, Cichlids, Saltwater Fish, Marine Fish, Koi, Pond Fish, Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, Leland Junge, Craig Flyzik, Orefield, Tank Maintenance, Tank Se). I stopped in to see what they have. WELL, it didn't look bad at first as I was walking past all the pond stuff. I then got to the saltwater section. The corals were awful. Before I could get too far the owner approached me and was very polite. I said I was just stopping in since I had never been there before. He started telling me they are going to be starting to carry B-ionic. I said oh good its a good product I use it yada yada yada. The more he talked the more I realized they are one of these places that want you to dose every chemical under the sun. Thats not me. Less is more to me. So he excused himself to help an employee with a customer. I ventured over to the fish section. There were only a few fish and they ALL HAD ICH! I got sick to my stomach. Quick thinking before he could come back and talk to me I pretended to get a phone call and talked on my cell phone and walked out got in my Jeep and left. Now I know what people are talking about on here when they mention how bad some LFS's are. Thanks for reading.

 

Yeah, I have a pet shop near my house (like 1/4 mile) and I figured they should just stick with dogs and cats. When I had a planted aquarium setup I bought like 40 neon tetras from them. The guy practically stunned all the fish with his vigorous swirling of the dip net. Then he dropped several on the dirty floor and pinched them up with his fingernails and put them in my bag!!!! Needless to say only half of them survived so i took them back and haven't been to the store since. People should never buy fish from a multi-pet shop!

 

I gotta use that trick....

 

Yup, my LFS is saltwater only.

 

My preferred LFS carries pond supplies and some fresh but mostly sells salt and specializes in coral reef setups (only one in the county that sells frags) Very expensive!

I used the mobile trick once
had the phone to my ear, pretending to talk to someone - "Yep Im on my way now, Ill be there in 10 mins"

then my phone rang!

"Oops - better answer this and speak to a real person eh" - was what I said to a confused shop assistant
