west coast ocean sand ?

    so im up grading to a 106 gallon salt water tank and i need SAND !! i live near the southern Oregon coast ,if possible i would like to use it any pros or cons thanks !!

    I am not familiar with the area you are describing

    I can think of 2 potential negatives

    1) there may be local laws that would make it illegal to collect from the area?

    2) you may be introducing any number of polutants or any number of pathogens that fishes from other areas would not have any immunity to

    there may be a method to collect , clean, sterilise the sand in order that the risks associated with number 2 above are eliminated
    and maybe someone else can offer advice with that aspect?

    Honestly, most of the time its worth it, IMO, to just buy the base sand as Steve said, you have no way of telling what you are bringing into your tank.
    Also, the process to wash takes time and effort which, in my book, are both worth money - so for me it's been worth it to just buy the base sand and make it live by seeding it with a small amount of quality livesand from a fellow reefer or LFS.
