So I got a great deal on this proclear wet/dry filter($25) But I want to use it as a sump and possibly a fuge. I have no idea what im doing. lol. I bought the hoses, return pump, and filter floss and now i just need to put it together. I have heard bioballs increase the nitrites, which I dont want to do so should I have it pour down onto live rock? What about a fuge, could I have one here? Where would I put it?

Also there is a sticker that says water level, and then to the right is a baffle but the top only goes to water level sticker, my pump is higher then that, can i raise the water level above the suggestion?

Also, i dont know if that sponge is supposed to be there, thats something I bought after looking around online, but now I have read the sponges are bad in sumps. So im really confussed and could use any help I could get

You guys are awesome, thanks again!

The diff feet is how many feet in head you have like how far down from the return is on your display tank.

If your sump/fuge is setting on the floor and with some plumbing IMO i think you should be right under 600gph which return pump did you go with?

I have a wet dry somewhat similar to that one. I'm getting rid of ot for a sump with baffles and an actual refugium. I think I'll be happier with that.....

Are you running a skimmer in the sump as well? If so I dont think there will be room for a fuge. If no skimmer then maybe you can gut the sump and remove those acrylic dividers to make room for a fuge section and a return section.

As for subbing LR for Bio Balls I would say use only small pieces of LR (if any). Large rocks will just collect detris and other waste just like Bio Balls do... But if you have LR in your display then there really isnt much of a need for it in your fuge or sump.

A fuge typically has a DSB and some chaeto to absorb nitrates and a small lamp for the chaeto. Also, the water flow in a fuge should be low.

I have liverock in my tank so i shouldnt need any here. I plan on buying a skimmer, that would hopefully go into the sump. What do you suggest I do? Turn the wet/dry filter into a sump and just hide big bulky equipment in it? Should I put anything on the crate, or leave it?
